When is the deadline?
April 15 but the earlier you apply the better chances you have.
What will I need for the application?
Complete the application form online (at www.stemm-hear.bme.jhu.edu). You will be asked several questions. You will need to upload a statement/essay and a resume. You will also be asked to provide email addresses of two people who we may need to contact for references.
Can F-1 or J-1 students apply?
No. Only US citizens or permanent residents can apply.
Are Letters of recommendation required?
No but you will be required to provide two names for references.
What if I am a rising sophomore?
It is your background that gives us a perspective of your application.
When is the orientation?
June 1 to 3
I am from a school where terms/quarters/semesters end in mid-to-late June so when do I start?
If you can get permission to take 1-2 days off for the orientation, it will help. But please give your professors advance notice etc about this prestigious opportunity. Then you can start internship after your finals.
Who pays for travel and hotel to and from Baltimore for the orientation?

Who pays for travel and housing to and from host institution?
The host institution
Can I go straight to my host institution from Baltimore?
Yes. The host institution should cover the cost of the outward trip from Baltimore while JHU will cover the cost of coming to Baltimore.
Expenses for the orientation are separate from housing and travel to host institution.
What kind of communication will be used in orientation and internship?

- If you primarily use ASL, we will arrange for weekly virtual conversations with 2-3 hearing research scientists with hearing loss who use ASL
My overall GPA is less than 3.0. But it has been increasing in the past few semesters. What should I do?

I am eager to learn about the auditory system but due to personal circumstances I don’t think I can spend the summer at any one of the host institutions. What can I do?
Please send us an email and we can help connect you with a lab. But you will not be able to attend the orientation. However we can try to include you in weekly cohort meetings virtually.
